Tucked between old forest and rocky headlands, Dam Trau is one of the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam, a place where you can swim in the morning and snorkel over living coral without ever leaving the shore.

Dam Trau lies on the northeast coast of Con Son island, roughly 12 km from the town center. Its name comes from the dam trau trees that grow along the shore. While beaches near the town get busy, Dam Trau has kept a rare wild feel thanks to its secluded position.
The white sand runs nearly 1 km, and the water is so clear you can see the sandy bottom even when you stand chest deep. Old forest rises behind the beach, and fossil coral headlands frame the view, creating scenery that feels both grand and romantic.
Swimming is the main activity. Waves stay gentle in the early morning but can pick up toward midday, so take care in the afternoon. The water shelves gradually, which makes it safe for children with adult supervision.
Snorkeling right off the shore is the experience you should not miss. Living coral and tropical fish appear just 10 to 20 meters from the sand. You can buy or rent gear at small shops along the road. Walk the length of the beach, climb the rocks for sunset, or picnic under the coconut palms. A few small eateries sell fresh seafood such as snails and grilled squid at fair prices.
If you like to explore, the old forest behind the beach hides monkeys and forest birds, but go with a local guide.

Con Dao now has more direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat airport), putting this historic island just 45 minutes away by air. There is no time limit on the beach, but plan to head back before 17:00 so you return to town safely in daylight.
