Start on foot in District 1

The historic core rewards walking. Notre Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office, the Independence Palace, Ben Thanh Market, and the Nguyen Hue walking street all sit within a compact area. A morning on foot covers the essentials, and you can duck into cafes whenever the heat builds.

Buses and ride hailing

Public buses are cheap and honest. Routes 04, 14, and 34 stop near the museum quarter and major markets. For door to door trips, ride hailing apps and traditional motorbike taxis fill every gap. Agree on the fare or check the app price before you hop on.

Leaving the center

Coaches to Vung Tau depart frequently from Mien Dong station and Dien Bien Phu street, taking 2 to 2.5 hours. Day trips to the Cu Chi tunnels or the Can Gio mangrove forest run through countless tour operators, or you can arrange private transport for more freedom.

Good to know

  • Download a ride hailing app before you arrive.
  • Carry small cash for buses and street stalls.
  • Cross streets steadily. Traffic flows around you.
